Some concepts of chemical fiber spinning methods (1)

Melt spinning: the polymer is heated to a proper temperature above the melting point to prepare the melt. The melt is extruded by a screw extruder  the metering pump presses out the spinneret hole to form a fine flow into the air  then condensed into a thin strip.


Solution spinning:  appropriate solvent to dissolve the fiber-forming polymer into spinning solution,  first make the polymer into soluble intermediate, then dissolve into spinning solution,  then spin. This method is often used for viscose, vinylon  acrylic fibers. Solution spinning can be divided into wet spinning  dry spinning according to different solidification conditions.


Dry spinning: dissolving polymer with volatile solvent to make viscous liquid suitable for spinning. The spinning mucus is pressed out  the spinneret to form a filament flow,  the solvent in the filament flow is quickly volatilized  solidified through the hot air sleeve,  then it is drawn into a filament. (chlorine fiber, acrylic fiber, vinylon, vinegar fiber)


Wet spinning: the spinning solution is made by dissolving the fiber-forming polymer in the solvent. The spinning solution is ejected  the spinneret  then enters the coagulation bath. Because of the solvent diffusion in the mucilage filament flow  the penetration of the coagulant into the mucilage filament flow, the filament flow solidifies into filaments.


Wet spinning is characterized by a large number of spinneret holes, but the spinning speed is slow, which is suitable for spinning short fibers, while dry spinning is suitable for spinning long fibers. In general, the structure  quality of the same kind of chemical fiber by dry spinning are better than that by wet spinning.
